Bet Brokers

Prepare for KYC at Betting Brokers: Documents, Triggers and Steps

The short answer

Yes. AsianConnect, BetInAsia, MadMarket and Sportmarket all reserve the right to ask for KYC at any time, and each asks for a photo ID and proof of address. BetInAsia and MadMarket can require it when you start betting or withdraw, while Sportmarket requires it before every withdrawal and once your deposits total EUR 3,000. This page sets out the documents to prepare, the moment each broker asks, where you upload them and how an account is opened.

Do betting brokers require KYC?

All four do. AsianConnect, BetInAsia, MadMarket and Sportmarket each reserve the right to ask for a photo ID and proof of address at any time. The request can land at any point in the life of the account, long after sign-up. We think that is fair, since a broker holding a large balance should know whose it is.

We use all four brokers, and their checks have a lot in common. They share the pair of documents and the right to ask whenever they like. They differ in the moment they ask, the extras they add and the place where you upload. If the role of a broker is new to you, we have broker, bookmaker and exchange compared in one place, and a list of bet brokers to go with it.

What the check covers

  • Who you are. Your identity, shown by a photo ID.
  • Where you live. Your address, shown by a document that carries it.
  • Whose money it is. At AsianConnect every deposit counts as your declaration that the funds are yours, and at BetInAsia deposits come from an account, payment system or card in your own name.
  • One person, one account. All four allow a single account per person.

We would gather both documents before registering, so that a request never catches you short.

When each broker asks

The table sets out the moments that matter, one per row, with the brokers each applies to.

Before a withdrawalAsianConnect, BetInAsia, MadMarket, SportmarketAsianConnect asks before a large withdrawal, or when an e-wallet wants your identity confirmed. BetInAsia and MadMarket can ask for a photo ID, address confirmation, a selfie or a verification call before granting it. Sportmarket always requires verification first.

Your ID expires or your address changesSportmarketVerification is renewed on request.

So the question is never whether. It is when.

You choose the moment you send the documents, not whether they are asked for. We would read the moment column first and send both documents on the day of registering, whichever broker it is. AsianConnect applies KYC to crypto payments too, and the payment side is covered in our page on the crypto betting broker route.

Documents to prepare

Two documents cover the check at all four brokers: a photo ID and proof of address. The ID is a passport, a driving licence or a national identity card. The proof of address is a utility bill or a bank statement, recent at AsianConnect, and no more than three months old at BetInAsia, MadMarket and Sportmarket.

Beyond the pair, each broker has its own extras. AsianConnect can also ask for the payment cards you have used. BetInAsia and MadMarket can ask for a selfie or arrange a verification call before a withdrawal, and MadMarket can ask for a selfie holding your ID. Sportmarket adds a selfie or a liveness check.

A scan left over from an earlier application is tempting. Look at its expiry date and address before you reuse it, because a good image of an out-of-date document is still the wrong document.

We would pick the passport when there is a choice, since Sportmarket asks for one when no expiry date shows.

That is the whole of the preparation.

KYC step by step

The sequence is the same at all four brokers: the broker asks, you upload, the broker reviews and the check ends. Only the door changes, and the figure shows where it is at each one.

Where each broker takes your KYC documents A broker asks for documents. You then go to the place each broker provides: the KYC icon in the AMS dashboard at AsianConnect, the KYC section of the BetInAsia Profile, the KYC section under My Details at MadMarket, or the Verification tab of the Main Account at Sportmarket. The review is done by software or by people. The questions below say who looks at what you send. At BetInAsia the KYC Department reports whether your documents are accepted, in the My KYC's section.

For the account side, see AsianConnect KYC, BetInAsia identity checks, MadMarket identity checks and Sportmarket identity check. The point of it all is access, and the bookmakers available through brokers are the other side of this door.

Until the check is done

Nothing breaks. Things pause.

At AsianConnect, access to some bookmakers is temporarily limited and large withdrawals are paused. At BetInAsia and MadMarket, betting can be suspended or account options restricted until the requested information arrives. MadMarket also shows a Temporarily Approved status once you have uploaded: the platform works as normal, but a withdrawal cannot be completed. Sportmarket can suspend the account until it has what it asked for.

Opening an account at each broker

The sign-up form is the first step, and the KYC request can follow it. This is what each form asks and what comes next.

Whichever you pick, you are 18 or the legal age where you live, you hold one account, and you register under your real name with the details copied from your ID, not typed from memory. Use an email address you will keep for years: all four ask for it at sign-up.

BetInAsia and Sportmarket accept accounts only from certain countries, and the lists are on their own pages: see where BetInAsia accepts accounts and where Sportmarket accepts accounts. For the bigger picture, start from our bet broker guide.

Questions people ask

Whose name has to be on the account and the payment method?

Your own. At AsianConnect, deposits and withdrawals go through bank accounts, cards, wallets or other methods that belong solely to you and are in your name. BetInAsia takes deposits from an account, payment system or card registered in your name. Sportmarket opens the account only under your full legal name, and nobody else uses it. BetInAsia also treats accounts held by relatives or by third parties acting for you as multiple accounts.

Which documents count as proof of address?

A recent utility bill or a bank statement, at all four brokers. AsianConnect also takes a recent official letter, and BetInAsia and MadMarket ask for a bill or statement under three months old. Sportmarket takes an electricity, gas, water, TV or internet bill, a bank or card statement, a government tax document, or a letter from the municipality or the police, no more than three months old and showing your full name and account address.

Why can an upload fail?

Because the document is not clear, complete or current. BetInAsia takes a PDF, PNG or JPEG up to 5 MB with all four corners visible, and refuses screenshots. MadMarket takes the same files and an ID that does not expire in the next three months. Sportmarket names blurred images, cut-off documents, expired ID and details that do not match, and asks for a passport when no expiry date shows.

Do I have to confirm my identity again later?

Yes, if a broker asks again, and all four reserve the right to. At AsianConnect, once you are approved you do not repeat it for the other partner sportsbooks. At BetInAsia and MadMarket the check can happen at any time during your relationship with the broker, and at BetInAsia you change your address by emailing support. Sportmarket renews it on request when your ID expires or your address changes.

Can a broker ask where my money comes from?

Yes, at AsianConnect and Sportmarket. At AsianConnect every deposit is your declaration that the funds are yours and not from illegal sources, more sources can be requested case by case, and a deposit above EUR 100,000 brings a source of funds request. Sportmarket accepts pay slips, loan contracts, savings, gambling winnings, pensions or inheritance as proof. The rest of the terms are in AsianConnect company and terms.

Who looks at my documents?

Software or a team, depending on the broker. AsianConnect uses a secure third-party KYC service and does not share your details with sportsbooks unless legally or operationally required. BetInAsia has a KYC Department and MadMarket a KYC team. Sportmarket uses third-party software or a member of its team, and continued use means accepting independent checks that can involve sharing data with third parties.
